Ayan Mukherjee, as I know him, has grown up surrounded by works of Kolkata-based artists. When he decided to open his own Studio, he had every opportunity to deal with easily-available canvas paintings for which there were ready buyers...

The term “collaboration” (specifically in visual arts territory) was absolutely unknown to me when I first met Ayan Da. In a simple way, if I paint with a brush on a canvas, I become the brush to him, i.e., I become the medium...

- ABOUT AM STUDIO
Art Multi-disciplines Studio
By creating an environment where the curator actively facilitates dialogue and expression, the traditional restraints on the creative self get dismantled. The true freedom of artistic expression flourishes within this unconventional framework, emphasizing the curator’s pivotal role in elevating exhibitions beyond mere showcases into immersive and expressive experiences for both artists and viewers alike.
From the very beginning, he aspired to explore the psyche of the artist(s) deeply and collaborate with them to create a mesmerizing work of art in front of the viewer. His unique practice and the response that he received from the audience gradually gave way to his brainchild, ‘A.M. Studio’, which became his very own space for experiments, explorations, and a medium to navigate metaphorical, bold, and symbolistic art with diasporic thoughts, perspectives, individual philosophies, and readings of life, its characters, and its dimensions.

‘The way I perceive my creative practice, I strive not only to discover and display artistic practices and artworks but also to weave a certain juncture of communication and context through transcendental narratives and the exchange of notions, realizations, philosophies, and ideologies. To execute this, I approach my collaborative colleagues / artists to hear out my triggering thoughts after engaging on a personal level with them and their practice. When the project takes off (if we could join in together, being on the same page of thoughts and beliefs), the panorama of the narrative becomes wider and much deeper as a result of the continuous interchange of dialogues and perspectives. Consequential connections that get built between me and my collaborative artist or artists thus get recontextualised, and the said project or exhibition turns into a collective expression rather than an individual one. A.M. Studio is my space for experimentation, a 300-square-foot cubical space, and my canvas to orchestrate my thoughts and expressions via exhibition, workshops, interactions, and so on, where I transform the physical environment in dynamic ways to harmonize with my concepts / narratives, considering the space as an individual object and an independent character. When needed, I also extend my displays beyond the walls of my studio to neighboring locales and streets to foster deep interaction with my community. The personal connection that I create with my collaborative colleagues and artists whom I choose to work with further expands and enables me to conceive and curate my projects’.
